So the day starts and you expect to have a great day because you just prayed for it. So you start your day full of excitement with the tasks you planned out, you check your planner, you do your tasks from the most important task to the least. In the middle of doing the most important task, you decide to jump to the second most important task and you try to multitask with the third most important task, then you do the same with the rest of your tasks. By the end of the day you realize that you only did one task. If you can relate with this scenario and is pretty much happening everyday then stop with whatever you are doing and focus with what this article has to say.
There are a number of people who are multitasking everyday and chances are you don’t get to finish everything (like me): Some tasks are partly done, almost done, or 1 out of 10 tasks is completely finished (what an achievement right?!). By the end of the day, tasks are pilled up and you end up doing the same tasks everyday or you forget them. Whether these undertakings are personal stuff or work related, it is always vital to get the job done because these things are also achievements or fulfillments that you can benefit from. The following are few things you may want to consider to really start and finish something.
Start your day with a prayer not Facebooking. Yes, prayer is not only done when you are about to fall off a clif. You can pray anywhere and anytime, it’s free so pray while you can! When you pray, you are already starting to organize your thoughts. Observe your prayer, does it sound enthusiastic at first then fades by the end of the prayer? (meaning you went back to sleep). If you had a nightout with friends and still have a hangover then maybe you can start your prayer inside the shower, whatever, as I have said, prayer is free so you can do it anywhere, anytime. Just remember to pray because it will not only make you feel good but this serves as a relationship with God. Who knows, maybe prayer is the only thing that keeps you alive (that scenario would be a perfect movie, btw). Maybe you can start your prayer with a thank you, then ask for guidance, pray for your tasks for the day or whatever it is you want to pray for. You can even pray about how to be good in praying. But don’t just pray because this blog tells you so, pray when you are ready. You really don’t have to be critical about it, sometimes you get the most beautiful prayer when you least expect it.
Plan your day. As much as possible it is best to plan ahead and plan your day with detailed information because you will most probably forget the reason why you are even doing the task (blame it on old age, tsk). For example from 6-7 you workout 7-9 eat breakfast and prepare for work 9-10 travel to the office 10-6 working hours (you can even elaborate on these area) 6-9 go out with friends or see your boyfriend/girlfriend 9-10 travel home 10-11 prepare for bed 11-6 sleeping. These may not sound so detailed to the bone but you can have your own detailed plans. This is what’s good with planners, once you have written all your tasks, you can edit them and you would see how busy you should be (Whoa!). Planners help you on how to prioritize and be able to reach your goal/s. Remember to purchase a planner that will give you enough space for your tasks. Devote enough time when finding a planner, select carefully because planners are a year investment and you will most probably use them every day. You can choose from paper to planner (if you’re techie).
P-r-i-o-r-i-t-i-z-e! Prioritize which means, only DO the most important, number one task, the really really vital task among all! As tempting as it may seem, jumping to the next task is like jumping on a 100th floor (exage?). Kidding aside, do your best to stick with what you have planned. After doing the number one task (Good job!), put comments beside that task because the comments will serve as your reminder about that certain task. Don’t forget to make detailed comments. Repeat this step with the rest of your tasks. Don’t be distracted with virtual stuff that gives temporary highs. Online Games, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr (Ehem), Multiply and other social networking sites have their own time. So set them aside, block them if you can and unblock them once you are done with your tasks.
To be continued. In case you only get to finish tasks 1, 2 and 3, then just continue the succeeding tasks the next day. Remember to do it or you will never have time to reach your goal. Remember that your goal is always to finish your tasks on the same day. So no excuses which means, procrastinating is a no no.
Celebrate! Once you have FINISHED the tasks for the day. Celebrate, have time to reward yourself. You really do not have to go hard on yourself but discipline yourself to a tolerable level. Remember that rewarding yourself with food is okay just don’t go overboard, especially if you are watching your weight (this can be another blog). Besides food, try to buy useful stuff like a new wireless mouse, a footwear, a shirt, and the list goes on.
If you feel like giving up imagine people with disabilities, how are they able to do things that some of us can’t even do or don’t have time to do it, things such as, scuba diving, flying a plane and the list goes on. These people are most likely successful with what they want to do because they have a goal and in order for them to achieve it, they pray, plan and prioritize. Point is… If they can do it, you can do it too, maybe even better. Now, get off your butts and do what you can do to reach your goal! Yeah!
